The Canadian Food Inspection Agency just announcedan active recallon President’s Choice brand white sliced mushrooms. This is due to a possibleListeria monocytogenescontamination after CFIA testing on the product came back positive for the infection.

While there are no illnesses connected to this recall, food contaminated withListeria monocytogenesposes risk of infection, known as listeriosis.Common symptomsof listeriosis include fever, muscle aches, tiredness and headaches. In more severe cases, stiff neck, loss of balance, confusion and seizures can occur.

Listeriosis is not typically life-threatening, but it can be dangerous for more vulnerable groups like those who are age 65 or older, immunocompromised or currently pregnant. If you are experiencing any of the above systems after consuming these recalled mushrooms, contact your health care provider immediately.

This investigation is ongoing and may lead to the recall of other related products. If you have the listed recalled mushrooms, throw them away immediately and follow thesesafe handling and cleaning proceduresas your kitchen may be contaminated.
