How do we lovehummus? Let us count the ways.Creamy and classic. Withadditional avocado. Garnished with roasted chickpeas and Marcona almondsa la Ina Garten. Pretty much any and every hummus recipe—evendark chocolate-infused—gets a big thumbs up from theEatingWellcrew. (Check out our new deep-dive into the manyhealth benefits of hummus.)
So we were delighted to see another variety of the Middle Eastern bean dip join the ranks of the already-stackedsnack aisle of Trader Joe’s. Introducing: Tabbouleh Style Hummus.
It mashes up the flavors of the classic chickpea dip with another one of the supermarket’s popular fridge case finds: Cauliflower Tabbouleh. Traditionally made with bulgur, a pile of fresh herbs, tomatoes and olive oil, TJ’s lower-carb tabbouleh made with thevegetable of the momentis so treasured it has spawned dozens of copycat recipes that can now be found on blogs written from all corners of the country.
Each two-tablespoon serving of hummus has 60 calories, 4 grams of fat, 4 grams of carbs and 1 gram of protein. If you, like us, are dip devotees, simply do the math accordingly based on how much you actually scoop up. (A ¼ cup, or ¼ of the container, equals two servings.)
It’s made simply with all recognizable ingredients: Garbanzo beans, diced tomatoes, tahini, sunflower oil, parsley, white onion, sea salt, citric acid, granulated garlic, lemon juice, spearmint, guar gum (to thicken) and allspice.
While we’ll be scooping it as-is with carrots and bell pepper sticks, we’re even more excited to track down a tub or two to make a riff on Trader Joe’s Mediterranean Nachos for dinner.
