You may have heard thatBoar’s Head recalled deli meat productsnationwide due to aListeria monocytogenescontamination.Now, the company is expanding the recall, according to the Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, impacting 71 more products distributed and sold internationally.This expansion also includes Old Country branded meats.
Approximately 7 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat products are recalled, as they have been in contact with affected liverwurst that tested positive forListeriabacteria. Sold in retail locations nationwide and exported to the Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, Mexico and Panama, the full list of additional products recalled includes Boar’s Head cheese, sausage, kielbasa and more deli meats, in addition to a variety of Old Country ham.

There have been 34 illnesses in 13 states, including 33 hospitalizations and two deaths, associated with thisListeriaoutbreak.Listeriainfection—also known as listeriosis—can be a serious disease for those immunocompromised, pregnant, over the age of 65 or for young children.Common symptoms of listeriosis include fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and, in more severe cases, headaches, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions. If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms after consuming Boar’s Head or Old Country deli meat products, contact your health care provider as soon as possible.
