From experience as an executive chef to being a single mom and home cook, Karen Resta began writing about food in midlife. Her interests include how we think about food, cooking and eating in real time and in memory, and the ways that thinking plays a part in how we manage the everyday sometimes-challenging practicalities of feeding ourselves and others.
During her time as executive chef for Partner’s Dining at Goldman Sachs, Karen designed and implemented creation of daily Healthy Menu Choices. She was also a consultant for menu development at Meals on Wheels of Rockland County, New York. Later, she developed lesson plans and coordinated in-classroom cooking classes as part of the Read-Aloud Program for elementary school students in Monroe County, West Virginia.
Herblogsinclude Postcards from the Dinner Table (featuring vintage food-focused postcards); The Food Encyclo (a collection of historic food writing); and Foodgeekology (random “geeky” facts and stories about food). Karen’s interest in healthy eating has become more deeply focused in recent years as an answer to how to stay healthy while aging.
